Discovery Channel promo

Well, it's been almost a month, so I guess it's time for a new post! Here's a video I saw recently that I enjoyed. It's very cheerful and makes me feel optimistic, somehow.

AFI's 100 Years...100 Movies

In our household, we’ve recently undertaken the charge of watching the complete list of the American Film Institute’s 100 greatest movies. As avid movie-watchers, we’ve naturally already seen a number of the films on the list – The Wizard of Oz, E.T. the Extraterrestrial, Some Like it Hot, The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Rings – but our experience has obviously been with the...“lighter” fare in this smorgasbord of influential, masterfully crafted movies. It has come as something of a shock to us, then, that the vast majority of the entries on AFI’s list are something of a slog to get through.
Ben-Hur, Yankee Doodle Dandy, Easy Rider...these are movies to make men sigh – with boredom. And it’s not just the films at the bottom of the list! (I’m about to commit sacrilege, so be sure you’re seated.) Citizen Kane is first on AFI’s list, naturally, and while its innovative use of cinematographic techniques and scandalous storyline are well-known, the modern viewer will be apt to find it all a bit boring (as Simon Cowell might say).
For students of film, each of these 100 movies is a landmark masterpiece that influenced the artists who followed, whatever flaws of story or pacing or casting the works might have. For more casual viewers, boring as some of these films might be, they are essential to understanding modern pop culture. How else could we laugh at an homage to The Godfather in a Super Bowl commercial?

Artwork

Here are some of the things I've worked on lately:

This is something I made for my friend Jill's birthday. I'm pretty pleased with it...I like the vibrancy of the colors and how the wings turned out. They took a lot of experimentation! The body is perhaps a little awkward, though.

These are some logos I made for my company, eShow. None of them were selected to be used, but I enjoyed working on them and think I created a few interesting configurations.

This is a mascot/icon thing I made...it features an e-symbol like the logos, but could be used for little animations and such on our website. I'm working on some further versions now.

I call this one "The Naked Ninja". Just a quick sketch, but I like it. She's a little musclebound for a woman, but she IS a ninja.

This is the first thing I drew with my computer drawing pad. He started out as just a kind of austere man, but I saw the vampire in him.

My biggest influence in learning to draw with a computer drawing pad is Seamas Gallagher, whose blog you can view here. He's a master!

Hello, World! Here I aaaaaaaaaam!

Hey, kids of the blogosphere (isn't that a great word? blogosphere...bloooooogospheeeere...mm...refreshing)!
Here's a little of what you can expect from T.G.I.Brandon: I'll wax poetic and prosaic on movies, books, music, celebrities, humor, culture, travel, politics, history, my belly button, and anything else flows into my stream of consciousness.
For now, a little taste of what pops out of my brain every now and then...a joke!

Q: Do you know why some people cry when they look at pictures?
A: Because they're photosensitive!

Sigh...It's amazing what you'll think up when you commute 2 hours per day.
